Day in the Dirt: Laying the Groundwork for Tomorrow
At SiteWORX, we know the work we do today is about more than moving dirt, installing utilities and preparing sites for what comes next. It’s about building something that lasts, and that includes investing in the people who make it all possible.
That’s why each year, SiteWORX hosts Day in the Dirt, an opportunity for our team members to bring their families behind the scenes for a firsthand look at what they do every day.
For our team, it’s pride in sharing a piece of their work with the people who matter most. For the kids, it’s a chance to experience our industry in a way that is exciting, hands-on and memorable.
A Day to Get in the Dirt
The day starts with every young visitor getting outfitted for the occasion with their very own hard hat and high-visibility T-shirt. From there, the real fun begins.
Kids have the opportunity to climb into the operator's seat of a mini excavator, take a ride in a haul truck and explore our static equipment displays.
Instead of simply seeing the massive machines their parents and family members work with every day, they get to experience them up close. For a few hours, the jobsite becomes their playground, and a place where kids’ play is encouraged!
And because a great family event needs more than heavy equipment, we make sure there's plenty of fun happening between the machines. A donut truck keeps everyone fueled up, while face painting and balloon animals add an unexpected twist to the day.
Celebrating Our People and Their Families
Our people are at the heart of SiteWORX. Their knowledge, skill, dedication and commitment are what allow us to take on challenging projects and deliver for our customers. Day in the Dirt gives us an opportunity to recognize that commitment in a special way, with their family by their side.
This work is demanding. Early mornings, long days, changing jobsite conditions and time away from home are all part of the industry. Inviting families into our world creates an opportunity for them to appreciate the work their loved ones do and experience the community they've helped create at SiteWORX.
It's also a reminder that when we invest in our people, we're investing in the people who support them and hopefully one day work alongside them.
Introducing the Next Generation
One of the most meaningful parts of Day in the Dirt is watching the kids experience the equipment for the first time. There's something special about seeing a child's face light up when they climb into a piece of heavy equipment or realize just how big a haul truck really is.
We don't know which of those kids might someday become an operator, mechanic, supervisor, estimator, project manager or another member of the construction industry. And that's okay! We're not trying to choose their future for them. We're simply giving them an opportunity to see what's possible.
Hands-on experiences make a lasting impression. By opening our doors and introducing young people to the equipment, technology, teamwork and opportunities within construction, we're helping them see the industry from a completely different perspective.
Laying the Groundwork for Tomorrow
At SiteWORX, laying the groundwork for tomorrow isn't just something we say. It's something we do. It's reflected in the way we train our employees, develop the next generation of leaders, create opportunities for growth and support the communities where we live and work. And sometimes, laying that groundwork looks like a child putting on a hard hat for the first time!
Maybe they'll remember the sound of the equipment. Maybe they'll remember climbing into the excavator. Maybe they'll remember the haul truck ride—or only the donuts! But maybe, years from now, they'll remember the day we gave them a firsthand look at what they could build.
That's what Day in the Dirt is all about. Creating experiences that bring our teams together, introducing the next generation to the people, possibilities and pride that exist at SiteWORX. The projects we build today shape the communities of tomorrow, and the people we invest in today help build them.
